LGBTQ* Movies To Keep On Your Radar
ALBERT NOBBS - Glenn Close, Jonathan Rhys Meyers
U.S. (Wide) Release January 2012
This looks like it has the potential of being a pretty neat film.
NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, is deeply offended by bookseller Simon & Schuster’s viral “It Getteth Better” cartoon video that pokes fun at religious anti-gay bigots. A quick Google search for “It Getteth Better” finds “about 132,000 results,” proving NOM is in the vast minority.
Good for some chuckles. Super awkward and problematic representation of trans people.
I have lost count of the amount of queer and trans* people who have told me that they want or have wanted to commit suicide.
Day 18 of top surgery recovery
Healing is a lengthy process. I’m not much more mobile or active than I was a week ago, but I feel better in my body and I can see a day-to-day difference in my nipples (grafts). I have to keep wearing the binder, but it is a relief to know that after ten days I never have to wear one again.
It’s interesting to teach my body how to live without breasts. I keep catching myself reaching for my tits, instinctively performing the little rituals of large-chestedness. This is an exercise in evolution; radically changing one’s physical landscape requires an ego-check. And I’m trying my damndest.
Rainbow Health Ontario, CAMH and The Public are incredibly excited to launch the Bisexual anti-stigma campaign in Toronto this fall. Check out the launch party on September 9th. For more information check out http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=199052006821971
We are thrilled to have been a part of this exciting initiative. Challenging biphobia is part of building strength in our communities!
That top one really makes me happy. YAY VISIBILITY AND INTERSECTION AND YES.
Today on “fabulous things that show up on my dash”.
(Because, seriously, unfuck the fact that this has to be an issue at all, since the whole anti-bi thing I understand even less than normal heterosexism, which says a lot.
But hella props to this lot.)
“Bi and trans”? OMG me too! I never get to say that.
Imagine I did though? OMG, you’re trans? ME TOO LOL OH THE POSSIBILITIES.
“Genderfuck refers to the self-conscious effort to “fuck with,” play with, or mock traditional notions of gender identity, gender roles, and gender presentation.” Brightly colored, eye catching badge. Comes in orange, plum and blue!
Get yrs (and one for yr friend!) HERE.

LGBTQ* Symbols, Slogans and Pride Signs
The Purple Rhino
* First appeared in Boston (December 1974)
* Created by Bernie Toal/Tom Morgani or Bernie Toal/Daniel Thaxton (opposing origin stories)
* Used a a symbol to bring Gay and Lesbian rights into public view
* Campaign fizzled because creators didn’t qualify for public service advertising rates (making it far too expensive to continue)
* Toal: “The rhino is a much maligned and misunderstood animal and, in actuality, a gentle creature.” He went on to comment that rhinoceroses only charge when angered or put in danger’s way. He used lavender because of it’s tie to the queer community and placed a heart in the center giving the rhino “common humanity to all people.”
* little known fact: The Purple Rhino is in the public domain. It was never copyrighted

“… Cause’ the thing is, you and all those cool kids you hang out with may not really mean anything by it when you talk about those fags, queers, dykes, and heh-heh-heh-that’s so gay- and heh-heh-heh you’re only worthy…
